WILLIAM E. LUKSAVAGE Obituary

WILLIAM E. LUKSAVAGE

William "Lucky" Luksavage, 76, long time resident of the Southern Nevada Veterans Home passed away at the Boulder City Hospital on March 2, 2024, after a short illness. Born January 16, 1948, near Allentown PA, he was a sports phenom growing up in football, baseball, and bowling at the State-level. He bowled against such notables as the U.S. standout, Earl Anthony. Lucky was a devoted Roman Catholic and at age19 was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a true military hero. During his Vietnam service as Sargeant with the Americal Division, Lucky was the point man on a series of secret patrols beyond the Ho Chi Minh Trail to attack and destroy heavily guarded weapons caches. For his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity shown over an extended period, he was awarded three Bronze Star Medals for Valor, the Air Medal, and two Purple Hearts among other service medals. After leaving the Army, he spent close to 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service. Lucky touched the hearts of so many people at or visiting the Veterans Home and those of us who knew him will remember his stories for years to come. He wrote extensively with advice to school children for shaping their lives. He was a Penn State football fanatic, having attended more than 250 games, an acquaintance of Coach Joe Paterno, and a 60% winning football bettor. He had tickets to the Superbowl in Las Vegas and unfortunately his declining health forced cancellation. Lucky received thanks for his improvement suggestions from President Biden. He leaves a son Michael and a daughter Angela. Lucky Luksavage was a very special American! A service honoring his life will be held Monday March 25th in the Davis-Eastern Main Chapel, 6200 S. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, followed by funeral honors and burial at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Chapel and Cemetery in Boulder City.
