MARIA ELENA BLAKE On April 3, 2023, Maria Elena Blake, 69, of Boulder City, Nevada was ushered into the arms of Jesus as she passed away in her home surrounded by family and friends. Maria's life began on November 11, 1953, to Antonino and Lucia Juana Melendez in Tlaxcala, Mexico. The eldest of 10 children, Maria grew up in a farming pueblo where she was accepted into a teaching program after high school. As a teacher, Maria taught elementary aged children in various subjects all the while caring for her parents and siblings. In 1978, Maria met and married Robert Blake. Their life together began in Mexico and later moved to Chula Vista, CA. Life continued for Maria and Robert as they welcomed the birth of their daughter Deborah, and later their son Jed. As a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, some of Maria's greatest joys were her family. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and Maria was often seen around town taking long walks with her dogs or grandkids. As Maria and her family relocated to Boulder City, NV in 1996, she became a trusted friend and caregiver to many in the community. In these times, Maria's love for others was on display as she poured out sincere love and devotion for those she was entrusted to care for. Maria is survived by her husband, Robert, her mother, Lucia, her two children and their spouses, grandchildren, and her siblings and their families. She also leaves behind many friends who became family to her over the years. We remember Maria as she departs this world but leaves a legacy of love and care as witnessed through the many people she was able to touch. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 10am.
