JOSE ABRAN MADRID

Jose Abran Madrid—known fondly as Abe or Joe—passed away on January 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to his family, community, and country. Born on January 25, 1935, in Gobernador, New Mexico, Jose moved to Nevada in 1952 and became a permanent resident of Las Vegas in 1959.

Jose was a man of remarkable intellect and work ethic. For nearly 20 years, he served in the Nevada National Guard, where he rose to the rank of Captain.

Parallel to his military service, Jose enjoyed a distinguished career with EG&G. Starting as an electronics technician, he worked his way up to Engineering Department Manager. His contributions at the Nevada Test Site and offices in Las Vegas and Los Alamos were a testament to his dedication and skill.

Jose was a devoted father to his sons, William and Richard supporting their endeavors in sports and scouts. In 1968, Jose married the love of his life, Mary Varley. Together, they shared 43 beautiful years, traveling and exploring the country and the world.

In his retirement, Jose remained active as a passionate golfer. He was also a fixture in his local community, frequently volunteering with various HOAs to improve the lives of his neighbors.

Jose was preceded in death by: Parents: Manuel and Genovieve (Montoya) Madrid: Siblings: Pat, Ernesto, and Lucy :Wife: Mary (Varley) Madrid. He is survived by: Brothers: Donald and Ike Sons: William and Richard (Nina) Four beloved grandchildren and Nine cherished great-grandchildren

With love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we invite you to join us in honoring Jose. To ensure all friends and family can gather, we will be holding a Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi, 2300 Sunridge Heights Pkwy, Henderson, NV; March 26, 2026 at 10:00. Also a memorial for our New Mexico family and friends in Blanco, NM at St Marys June 20th.
