BARBARA MORRIS
Barbara (Barb) June Morris, born May 15, 1934, in Newark, New Jersey. Barbara and her parents, Dot and Phil Rein, moved to California when she was a child and settled in the city of Fontana, CA. That is where she met her childhood sweetheart, Ken Morris, and they got married on Valentine's Day, 1954. They moved to Nellis Air Force Base where Ken was stationed, and Barb worked in a downtown Las Vegas retail store, She also wrote and acted in commercials for KLAS TV studio, it was the only local TV station in Las Vegas in 1954. Her first son Doug was born February 1955, the day that they tested an atomic bomb in the Nevada desert. When her husband Ken was honorably discharged from the Air Force, they packed up their bags and headed back to California, eventually settling in Ontario, CA. Her second son Todd was born May 1958, in Ontario. Barb and Ken lived in the house in Ontario for 41 years. As her sons started school, Barb started her years of volunteering, first as a school room mother, Cub Scout Den Mother, Team Mom for the boys Little League Baseball team, and other local volunteer activities after her boys were out of school. As her sons got older, Barbara decided to go back to school and finish her university education that she started at UCLA. She attended Cal Poly University Pomona, University of La Verne, University of Redland, Cal State LA, and a few others for special courses, including courses in her "Senior years" at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She earned her AA, BS and Masters in Educational Counseling. She was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She received five Special Education teaching credentials and taught the Hearing-Impaired younger students for 20 plus years in California. Barb considered her classes a second family. During summer breaks from teaching, and after Ken retired, they traveled throughout the United States, and a few spots abroad, trying to find the perfect spot to retire. After retiring from teaching, Barb and Ken decided on Boulder City for their home in retirement. Retirement in Boulder City gave her plenty of new opportunities for more volunteering at Boulder City Parks and Recreation, See Spot Run, Hoover Dam, AAUW, Boulder City Museum, Boulder City educational cultural and history (Barb said it was her honor to portray Erma Godbey), Veterans Home, St. Jude's Ranch, UNLV's Senior Adult Drama (they performed in Germany too), Meals on Wheels, Alzheimer's Association, Damn Short Film Festival in downtown Boulder City, Senior Touring Entertainment, Conservatory Theater, and acting as a patient for the Touro Medical University. Barb really enjoyed volunteering and her family has followed her trend. Barbara (Barb, aka "Boo" to the family and friends of her sons), left this earth for Heaven on February 8, 2025, a few days shy of her and Ken's 71st wedding anniversary. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ken; son, Todd; and parents, Phil and Dot Rein. Barb is survived by her son, Doug (Dee); and daughter-in-law, Julie. Barb always enjoyed her four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one step-great- grandchild. To honor Barb's volunteer work, please volunteer at one or more of the great organizations that she volunteered at if you are able. You will meet wonderful people and leave with a warm heart. A private family celebration of life will be held for her in California on her birthday. In closing, Barb's moto was to always "Give and Receive!" Mom, "Boo," you will be missed by many!
