San Clemente, CA - Barbara Jean Hughes, 90, passed on March 18, 2026.

She was born June 30th, 1935, in Bremerton, Washington to Robert and Vida Mae Cunningham. She had one older sister, Mary Lee.

While attending Oregon State College she met her future husband of 61 years, James Hughes. They were married in Corvallis, Oregon in 1954.

Together, Barbara and Jim started a new life in California where Jim worked and went to night school while Barbara worked for NBC studios. They eventually moved to Huntington Beach where they lived and raised 3 boys from 1960 to 1994.

Barbara was always involved with community events including PTA president and fund raising through Golden Key Auxiliary. She loved Square and Round Dancing with "Lace and Leather". She enjoyed sewing so much that she made all her square-dancing dresses and many shirts for her teenage boys.

Her love for travel led to a brief career as a travel agent where she took advantage of many opportunities to visit countries abroad.

Barbara never lacked a strong voice; her opinions were clear and forceful to be sure.

As a retired couple, Barbara and Jim followed their lifelong friends the Greeley's to Boulder City, NV in 1994. Installing a new home in the Lake Mountain Estates Community.

Not to be slowed by her new location Barbara became involved in their HOA, The Rolling Boulders travel club, The Red Hat Society, The Boulder City Elks, Mahjong club, volunteered for Lend-a-hand, and many more.

Her love and attachment for her friends, old and new, can't be understated. She loved and depended on you all.

Although stricken with dementia over her last years, Barbara was blessed with a full and rich life filled with great friends, neighbors, and a loving family.

Barbara is survived by her three sons: Jimmy, Gregg, and Keith, 6 grandchildren, and one great grandson.

The family will be forever grateful for the caring support of Barbara in her later years, which was lifesaving, to say the least. Bless and Thanks to all of you in Boulder City. What a beautiful community you are.
